What is emerDNS

Domain names recorded on the Emercoin blockchain. A name belongs to whoever holds its key: there is no registrar that can take it away, and no expiry other than the one paid for on the blockchain.

Ordinary DNS servers do not know these names. You need a resolver that reads the blockchain, such as ours.

This search shows only a link, a title and a couple of lines. We do not store or show the pages themselves.

How to open .emc

Set our DoH resolver in your browser. It resolves ordinary websites too and keeps no query logs. What it sees.

Firefox

Settings→Privacy & Security→DNS over HTTPS→Increased Protection→Choose provider: Custom, then paste the address above. If our resolver is down, Firefox falls back to your usual DNS and ordinary sites keep opening.

Chrome · Edge · Brave

Settings→Privacy and security→Security→Use secure DNS→With: Custom, then paste the address above. Chrome has no fallback: if our resolver is down, sites stop opening until it is back.

Android

“Private DNS” works over DoT only; ours is coming later (dot.emercoin.com). Meanwhile: Settings→Network→Private DNS→Private DNS provider hostname dns.froth.zone. It is not our server: whoever runs it sees every lookup of the phone. Or use Firefox set up as above.

iOS · macOS

A .mobileconfig profile with DoH is coming later. Until then, use Firefox or Chrome set up as above.

Other ways

OpenNIC DNS servers for the whole device, not only the browser: put two addresses from this list (checked daily) into the network settings. It is plain DNS: your provider sees the lookups.

Your own Emercoin node with emcdns=1 answers the emer zones itself, trusting no one: emerDNS documentation.

Type the full address with the scheme: http://name.lib/. Without http:// the browser takes it for a search query. If your browser goes through an HTTP proxy, add the zones .emc .coin .lib .bazar to the proxy exceptions.
